Former RSC faculty Marti Epstein featured in Boston Globe

Marti Epstein, who chaired the Techniques of Music Department and taught piano at The Rivers School Conservatory from 1991-1997, is featured in the Boston Sunday Globe article about new music at Tanglewood. ( Click here for the full story.) Dr. Epstein grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, received her Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Colorado and her Masters and Doctorate from Boston University. She was the RSC commissioned composer for its Annual Seminar on Contemporary Music in 1994 for which she composed her “Concerto for Cello and Chamber Orchestra.”
Dr. Epstein has received numerous awards including a Massachusetts Cultural Council Grant, Fromm Foundation Commission, Lee Ettleson Composition Prize Bay Area Women’s Philharmonic Composition Prize, and Friends and Enemies of New Music Composition and commissions from from ALEA III, Sequitur New Music Ensemble, the Fromm Foundation, the New England Brass Quintet, the Iowa Brass Quintet, Boston Conservatory, Boston University Marsh Chapel Choir, and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra. Her music has been performed in Europe and America by ensembles such as the San Francisco Symphony.
