Since 1983, the Seminar has included a major commissioned work by a nationally or internationally recognized composer written expressly for a conservatory student or ensemble. The conservatory also funds up to ten teacher-initiated small commissions each year.

HIGHLIGHTS
WordSong, the 2013 Commissioned Composers, have chosen Jaume Plensa’s Humming, a sculpture at the deCordova Museum, as the basis and inspiration of composition. Six world premieres will be played and discussed by the composers and audience members. The 2013 commissioned WordSong composers are: Howard Frazin, John McDonald, Benjamin Pesetsky, Adam Simon, Tom Schnauber, and Matthew Woodward.

WordSong was founded in 2008 by composers Howard Frazin and Tom Schnauber and presents concerts, salons, and educational programs that create a public conversation about intuitive musical understanding.

On Tuesday, April 9, 2013, Six WordSong composers present works inspired by the sculpture Humming, preformed live at the deCordova Museum in Lincoln. At 5:30 pm the museum and grounds will open exclusively for concert-goers, with pre-concert hors d’oeurves and beverages.
